Where I cut the holes there was 6 inches of good ice. I fished out in front of the resort in 16 foot of water and the tip-up in about 10 foot of water by the edge of a weedbed. The tip-up did nothing all weekend. Out deeper I did land one 19 inch walleye and four other small walleye between 6 and 12 inches and also six pike all undersized. I lost two walleye at the top of the hole. I also had a big pike break the line after getting it to the hole several times. All the fish came in the morning and again before dark. There are lots of small perch around during the day. I was fishing with 2 inch emerald shiners one on a bare hook and the other on a couple different jigs.

I did not spend any time fishing for perch. The bigger fish are a lot of fun on the little ice rods and I cannot seem to stick with perch fishing for more than about 5 minutes.

The were a couple of people fishing along the north shore this weekend. They were catching perch and a few pike. The perch were caught on 1 inch emerald shiners and wigglers. The pike were caught on sucker minnows and golden shiners.

There is a couple of inches of snow on the ground but will need a lot more before snowmobiling can get started.
