Fishing/Trail Report

posted on January 5th, 2014 - 7:10PM

We havenít been doing much trail riding. We are still waiting for the snow to get a little deeper for off trail riding. There is about 20Ē of snow on the ground here and sled traffic has been fairly light with the snow in Lower Michigan and Wisconsin. The riders I have talked with at the gas station and those staying with us have said the trails are great which is the first time I have ever said the trails are great since we bought the resort in 2007.

Fishing on AuTrain Lake has been very light because Munising Bay has already frozen over and is now frozen out past Sandpoint. They have been fishing there for a few weeks and are doing well on Splake and Whitefish. As for AuTrain Lake, I finally got a chance to fish tonight. I caught four Walleye (all about an inch short), three on sucker minnows and one on a PK spoon. I caught several perch waiting for primetime.

I measured the ice under the shack and there is 19 inches of ice with some slushy spots where people havenít ridden on the lake.
